My husband and I decided on the spur of the moment Monday morning to try to get the mountains all by ourselves. We knew that we would probably find wonderful people along the way to help us. Monday was such a beautiful, crisp Fall day here in NC. Our first sighting of the mountains was Pilot Mountain.
Then we arrived in Mt Airy the home of Andy Griffith. This is Barney's police car. They use this to take people on tours. We met a couple just coming back from a tour and they came over to the car to talk to us. They were from Canada and were on their honeymoon.
These are some more of the pictures that I took of Mayberry. Floyd's Barber Shop and Snappy Lunch are downtown on Main Street. I could not get any pictures as we rode down Main Street because their were so many tourist. When we were able to walk, we would always stop at Snappy Lunch for their famous pork chop sandwich. That sandwich is worth waiting in line for.
We stopped at a fast food place and got lunch
and had a picnic in the parking lot. We then started our drive up to the parkway. We stopped at our favorite food stand and bought mountain-grown cabbage, new pinto beans, and apples. Then onto the parkway.
These pictures do not really show what our eyes saw. The scenes were gorgeous!!!!!!! We had the most wonderful day, just the two of us. As we knew, we came across the most wonderful people that were willing to help us get out and into the car and places we wanted to go. We dared to undertake this trip and we are so glad we did. We are two blessed people even in our circumstances!
Looks like a great trip. Such cozy, peaceful pictures of country life.
ReplyDeleteLoving the picture of the old mill with the water wheel, the colors in it just compliment each other so beautifully!

Hi There, Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you after your visit to my blog. After being on vacation, I have been WAY far behind on my blog comments.
ReplyDeletePlease come back to my blog anytime!!!! I am enjoying yours. We have been on the parkway near where you are. In fact, we were at Mt Airy --and ate at Aunt Bea's Kitchen!!!!!
Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy
Beautiful. I'm glad you had a great time and that people were so helpful. (These pictures almost make me homesick, and I've never been there!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice journey; we visit Winston-Salem, NC several times a year and I always love going down the mountain, from VA into NC, and catching my first glimpse of Mt. Pilot -smile-.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had known you were coming this way. I live about a half an hour from Mabry Mill! I would have met you for lunch. Next time let me know your coming.
ReplyDeleteI just realized we were on our way home on Monday!LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I miss those mountains. I wish there is something like that around here. Just spurt of moment to go out & enjoy the nature like you did. The pics are beautiful. Wish you took me along for the ride. I love Andy Griffin Show. ~ Dawn ~
ReplyDeleteI love being able to "travel" thru the pictures of my friends in blog land. Your's are awesome and it's a part of the country I'll probably never see otherwise. Mayberry is a real place? and how cool is Barney's car? Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your day trip with us. Great photos - beautiful Fall colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I have 2 other dollhouses. One is finished and the other was a store display and the inside was not finished off. That is my project now, but have not been putting a lot of time into it.
Have a great week.
Glenda
